Three people have been hospitalized in Florida after opening an envelope in the Palm Beach County State Attorney?s Office that contained white powder, the Associated Press reported.
Police received a call from the office in West Palm Beach around 9 am on Tuesday, saying the mail room found an envelope that contained white powder. Soon after three people in the mail room complained on headaches after the envelope ?poofed? the substance when opened, CBS News reported. Part of the office was then evacuated and the mail room was sealed off.
The two women and a man were decontaminated at the scene before being sent to a local hospital for treatment, along with a firefighter who responded to the situation who suffered from cardiac symptoms, CBS New reported. Both women also complained of nausea and were vomiting before they were taken to the hospital, MSNBC reported.
The workers from the mail room are in good condition but being kept under observation. There has been no word on the firefighter yet.
So far tests on the powder have been inconclusive and the envelope will be sent to the FBI for further testing, MSNBC reported. City spokesman Chase Scott said the test could come back in the next day or two, the AP reported. Police have yet to announce where the envelope was from or who it was addressed to.
