Jayee University College has admitted 399 fresh students for the 2012/2013 academic year to pursue diploma and degree programmes.
The students were selected from a total of 2462 applicants received, Mr John Emmanuel Donkor, President of the University College said on Saturday in Accra.
He said the number which is made up of 288 females and 111 males with three foreign students have enrolled for programmes in faculties of Business Administration and Communication Science. 305 students are pursuing degree courses and 94 diplomas.
Mr Donkor is the founder of the college, which marks its 25th anniversary.
He announce a new admission drive for September, which will officially open April 1, bringing the facility to the door steps of potential students, parents and guardians through on-site admissions at appropriate locations with set dates.
He said with the current lecturer population of 43 with 849 students he expressed the hope that the college would hit 1,500 students by September.
Mr Donkor said the courses of the college would be streamlined in response to demands of the market.
He said work is picking up at the 10- acre West Campus to house staff, students, lecture rooms and a state of the art auditorium.
Professor Akwasi Asabere-Ameyaw, Vice Chancellor of University of Education; Winneba, appealed to organisations where students go for internship to make conscious efforts to train them.
He said students in private tertiary institutions are potential tax-payers hence the need for them to benefit from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND).
He called for the amendment of the GETFUND Act for the 40 per cent of the tertiary students in private universities to benefit from the facility. GNA
